Wing Nuts - Cam and Ted

It seemed like everyone was going different directions this morning.  Blaine headed off early to go to Bette's for coffee.  I made breakfast for myself in the condo, and then a bit later, Kent did the same.

Big Air Jim headed to Sailworks.  I'm not sure how much it cost him, but he was there for the majority of the morning.

Most of us left for Roosevelt by 9:30.  I thought I would be one of the last to arrive, but I was the first.  The parking lot was mostly full of the long time campers, but there was still room for us.

Andreas went to Portland to pick up Ross and arrived at about the same time as Big Air Jim, Cam and Cynthia, around 1:00ish. Most of us had already had a session..  

Brad enjoyed his day!

I was first out and took my Wing Foil board and set it up with my 5m Wing.  Sail sizes for everyone else ranged from 3.8 to 5.2.  The wind was fairly steady for most of the day.

Andreas and Ross went out on their 8m and 7m kites, and had a great time foiling.

Most of us went out for three or four sessions, and had a lot of fun.  The near side is quite flat, and there were decent swell on the far side.

Cam started out on his Wing Foil and was making a lot of foiling jibes! I came close in a couple, and I had a lot of fun in the waves, turning on the face and trying to ride the wave.

I think Cynthia had the most time of the water!  She was doing great!  She was a bit embarrassed when she caught up to me on my Wing Board and thought I was Cam, so she shouted "Happy Anniversary Baby".  I didn't actually hear her, but she told me about it later.  What a compliment that she could confuse me for Cam!

Jim Mudry was there with his wife, so he gave us all lots of advice and we enjoyed sailing with him.  Great guy!

I came off the water at around 6:00 - totally exhausted.  Some of the guy's sailed until after 7:00.

We got back to Hood River around 9:00.  There was no specific plan for supper, so some were at Solstise, some at China Gorge, and Blaine, Brad, Kent, Bernd and I cooked some frozen pizza at the Condo.

We learned that Bernd had kited at the event site and had a great day on his 14m kite!  His two middle sized kites are at Air Tim being repaired.  He should have them back by Monday.

Another great day.  Looking forward to tomorrow.

2022-09-06 Fall Gorge Trip - Day 1

2022-09-05 Travel Day Kent left Wabamun Monday morning at 7:00am.  I left my place at 7:30.  We met in Cranbrook around 2:30.  I had gone through Drumheller, so no traffic until the section on Highway 9 south of Drum where there were a lot of RV.  The on-coming traffic on HWY 3 was incredible - bumper to bumper, particularly through Frank to Sparwood.  Fortunately my direction was quite light traffic and not many slow vehicles!  Lucky!  Kent said he had a similar driving experience going through Lake Louise. The smoke seemed to get worse the further south we got, and peaked out at the border where it was really thick and when you opened the window, you could taste it? We probably could have sailed at either Baynes lake or at Sandpoint, but it looked a bit marginal and we were in "Travelling Mode". We got to Ritzville around 8:00, checked in to the Best Western and then went to the local Mexican Restaurant, which was highly recommended by the hotel staf...

2022-09-08 Low Wind Day

Not a whitecap to be seen, but if you look closely just behind the sailboat on the far shore you can see Blaine with his Red and Yellow sail. The forecast for today was not great for wind.  Brad and Blaine headed to Dog River for coffee and then went "Shopping".  (Blaine ended up with a new front foil wing).  Kent says Blaine is going down a dangerous path, he now has two sets of foils, one oriented for high speed and another for playing in the waves.  Each set will end up with multiple front and back wings.  How will he decide what to use?  (KENT'S COMMENT-  Blaine is fxxxx'd.   He has a good wing set but went out and bought one wing that is slightly better than any wing in his current quiver.   Now he will have to replace the rest of the quiver.) Kent and I drove to Sailworks, where they tried to talk him into a new board... (apparently they already have his old one sold....), and I picked up an 899 foil wing.  We then picked...

2022-06-17 Mixed and Shifty Day

Andreas, Handré, Ted, Brad, Blaine, Bernd, Kent, and Big Jim It started to rain about the time we all got up.  Most of the guy's headed down to Dog River for coffee and then Bette's for breakfast. The usual shopping frenzy continued.  Blaine bought the board he was looking at.  Kent still has the new Roberts in his truck to demo, I picked up my new Kraken 999 foil from Sailworks, and Big Jim bought a wetsuit from ProMotion.  I am sure there were other purchases as well.  Oh, did I mention I also bought a 3.5m Wing for Louise! It is very light and should be perfect for her.... (I might use it once or twice while I am here...) Andreas arrived and met up with us at Sailworks.  He had Dale help him set up the new foil system that he had purchased just before he came down here.
