2022-06-14 Driving all Day

They let us in!
I got up at 6:00.  It had rained overnight, so I had left my bike in the garage.  It was still raining, so I got quite wet while loading the bike.  I said goodbye to Louise (who was also up early so she could visit her mom and dad for her Dad's 86th Birthday), and left by 6:45.

I met Kent for breakfast at the Tim's in Red Deer.  From there we took turns taking the lead.  It rained hard until we got down past Calgary.  The Red Deer radio station said they were expecting 85mm today! Calgary had declared a "State of Emergency" because they were expecting a lot of rain, although as we passed, they were downgrading the alert, although still building retaining walls and preparing for some evacuations.  Apparently a lot of the rain that fell in the mountains, fell as snow, so won't run off as fast.  The rivers that we passed were certainly high and running very fast.

We stopped for gas south of Okotoks, for lunch at Subway in the Crows Nest Pass.  We got to the border around 2:00 pm and had no issues, other than when Kent said "Thanks for letting me back into the Country".  The boarder guard started to get agitated, until he explained that it was COVID, not something he had done...

I saw a Black Bear running across the road just before we got to Sandpoint - not something I see every day!

We stopped again for Gas just before Spokane, and for Supper at the A&W in Tri-Cities.  I had forgotten that they don't have Teen Burgers at A&W in the US.

We thought we might stop for a look at Roosevelt, but it was starting to get dark, so we kept going, and arrived at Ross's condo around 10:00pm.  Both of us were pretty tired, but not tired enough not to want to have a beer.  We went to Safeway for "Supplies", and then sat and discussed the worlds "Foiling" problems until after midnight!

We are looking forward to a great trip!  Kent and I both have a lot of shopping to do tomorrow.
