2022-09-12 Late session at the Event Site

Big Air Jim (or "Shim Jim") had a great day!

We had a slow start today.  I think everyone was tired from yesterday's session.

Shortly after we got up, it started to rain, and the rain continued for most of the morning.

After breakfast, we all went to Sailworks, in shifts, to talk about sailing, what the forecast will be, and what new equipment we might need.

Big Air Jim  had the sailworks team look at his foil, confirm that his shim was in correctly, this time, and give him advice about how to sail it.

The sun started coming out around noon.  Kent, Brad, Blaine, Al and I watched some Sail GP while eating lunch in the Condo.

The forecast was for wind in the afternoon, so we all headed down to the Event Site, to wait for the wind.  It was very calm when we got there around 2:20.  There was a slight breeze from the West, but nothing to speak of.  There were a couple of people out on their E-Foilers blasting around on the flat water.

Eventually the wind started to build.  Big Air Jim was the first of our group to go out.  He slogged at first, but then got a ride.  He was on his 6m sail, and ended up probably having the best day of the group.

Eddy took out his 12m Kite, and Mike was out on his 15.  Ross foiled with his 7m Kite.

Blaine, Brad and Ross were all out on their 6m Flyers.

Cam was out on his 5m wing and 899 foil.  He had a good time practicing pumping up onto a foil on his 80L board, and had a pretty good session, although he ended up swimming home when the wind eventually died.

I went out on my 999 foil and 5.5m Wing.  I had a pretty good, but short sail.  When the wind started to die on the inside, I headed for home and was lucky to get a gust which took me home.  It turned out that the wind lasted a bit longer, but I am starting to get warn out from all the foiling so I was happy to sit on shore and take some photos.  Actually it is the climbing back onto the board, standing up and pumping that tires me out, not the foiling - that part is easy!

Brad, Blaine and Kent were the last off the water.  It was an interesting session with very, very gusty and shifty wind conditions!

Blaine - mid Jibe!

It took quite a while to de-rig, so like yesterday it was dark by the time everyone was finished.  More importantly, all the restaurants were closed, so there was a scramble, "every man for himself" rush for supper, with most of us going to Safeway to grab something to heat up for supper.

We watched some formula Windsurf and Windfoil racing on YouTube after supper.

Early to bed again.  This is one serious party group!  I think we lasted to 10:30.

More wind is forecast for tomorrow!

No wonder Cam always looks good...
He has an autonomous drone foil - it sails itself!
