2022-09-07 Moiser

The call was for westerly wind pretty well all day.  Karen has to be back to work in Edmonton tomorrow, so she and Ross left at 9:30 for the airport.

Kent and I left around 11:00 for Moiser - Rock Creek.  It was already windy.  I went out on my 3.5 wing, and the smaller front foil wing that I was demoing from SailWorks... an 899.  It took a few tries to learn how to pump it up onto a foil, but after that it worked fine, and seems to keep it's speed in the waves better than my bigger one.  I think it is also faster, but I haven't checked my tracks yet.

Kent rigged his 3.9 and small race foil wing and had a blast!  He said he was in much more control than yesterday.

Kent - ready for a great session!

Unfortunately, I had a dumb fall just as I was trying to get up out of the water and the wind caught my board and slammed it into my wing, ripping a small hole in the fabric.  I continued to sail it for a while, watching the tear closely to make sure it wasn't getting bigger.  I was having a lot of fun riding the waves, and even came close on a few jibes riding switch after the jibe for a ways before crashing....

My board (or foil), cut the fabric on my 3.5 wing!

Kent and I took a break for lunch, just as Blaine and Brad arrived.  Ross arrived as well, back from dropping Karen off.  They all rigged and headed out.  I had lunch, and then packed up my wing and took it to Air Time.  They will have it repaired by tomorrow (for a $50 surcharge - which I figure was a deal - considering the alternative was Friday or possibly Monday).

Blaine and Brad - ready to go for their first session!

When I got back to the site, the gang were still out.  Kent had four sessions for a total of over 80km.  Brad sailed his 3.8 Foiler and had two sessions for 31km.  Blaine was also on his 3.8 and also had two  sessions for 48km.

Blaine - great session!

I went out again, this time on my 4.5 wing.  The wind was off a bit from the morning, so it was OK, but then it picked up again.  I held on for as long as I could, but I was getting tired and starting to make dumb mistakes, so I went back to shore with a total of just under 20km for the day.  Great day, and some progress.

Brad - using every cm of his Mast - Not sure how that will turn out!

Ross re-rigged to his new 4m kite and went out.  He said it was the first time he had ever been on a kite that small.  It took a bit to get out of the fluky wind around shore, but he then had a great time on the far shore kitefoiling! Sorry, no photos - he was just too far away!  It was his ninth day in a row and he said he is getting worn out!

It took a while for us to de-rig.  Of course a few "Pop's" were consumed.  Dale Cook arrived around 5:30 and went out on a 5.2.  Kent tried to chase him, but it was like a peddle bike chasing a motor bike!  Kent wants to go faster - and is desperately trying to figure out how to do it.  The fact that he can already blow past any of the rest of us doesn't seem to matter.

Kent - trying to go fast (out the back door!)

Eventually we all made it back to the condo.  Blaine and Brad unpacked, and everyone enjoyed more conversation on the deck.  Everyone had a great day.

At about 7:30, we rode our E-bikes (except Kent who has a mountain bike), down to Double Mountain Pizza for supper.  The pizza was great, and we all ate too much!

Great day!

Too many photos for a blog, but Kent said you can't have too many photos.....

Kent on his 3.9 - waiting for a gust!

We had a convenient 1/2 hour break from the wind at lunch time!

Ted had a great day!
(Thanks Kent for the photo)
